Sepiolite: Gemstones Information

Sepiolite is Mg4Si6O15(OH)26H2O, the compact opaque white variety meerschaum occasionally being used ornamentally though pipe bowls appear to have been its commonest use. It has a hardness of 2 and SG of 2 and it may float on water due to its porosity when dry. It is found as a sedimentary clay mineral, the meerschaum variety coming from Eskishehir, Turkey.
