About Hawk’s Eye
Hawk’s eye is a stone off a light sharp as the eyes of the hawk. It is a beautiful stone that reflects the light in the same way as Tiger-Eye. Hawk’s eye is a blue-grey to blue-green opaque gemstone variety of fibrous quartz. More specifically, it is a variety of microcrystalline quartz. Hawk’s eye is actually a pseudomorph of quartz. Hawk’s eye is almost always cut en cabochon in order to maximize the desirable chatoyant effects. Pietersite, another popular blue-grey gemstone, is made up mainly of hawk’s eye and tiger’s eye. Hawk’s eye can be identified by a combination of its distinct composition, colour and chatoyancy.
The most important sources for hawk’s eye include Australia, Brazil, Canada, China, India, the United States (mostly Arizona and California), Myanmar (Burma), Namibia, South Africa, Spain and Korea.
