About Bloodstone
Bloodstone, also known as Heliotrope, from the Greek helio and tropos, meaning to turn toward the sun. The name bloodstone obviously comes from the appearance of the red droplets being similar to blood. Is a type of Chalcedony which is a type of cryptocrystalline, or fine-grained, Quartz with a fibrous microstructure. This type of material is also called Plasma. Plasma is a microfibrous type of Chalcedony coloured various shades of green by densely packed fibrous Actinolite crystals and including blood-red to orange spots of iron oxides or red Jasper that resemble blood spots. This material is always opaque and usually found as cabochons but may also be faceted. It is very attractive with its blood spots on a deep green background. There are also some gemological myths associated with bloodstone. In the gem trade, the term blood jasper is sometimes used to refer to bloodstone. Many apparently reputable sources describe bloodstone as a form of green jasper, or as containing red jasper. But according to the most authoritative sources, such as Schumann’s Gemstones of the World, bloodstone is not a jasper at all. And, primarily the Bloodstone is found from India.
